Is God listening to my prayers?

Trust God. Trust His Timing.

This piece of advice is what we usually hear from people. They say that everything happens for a reason and God will not allow a battle that you can’t win. He will not allow hardships that you cannot overcome. While you hear all this good things from people, why is it that God seems to be silent? You pray, you read His word, you meditate, and yet you hear nothing from Him.

At first, you trust God regardless of His silence because you see people praying for you and with you. And you say to yourself “maybe, it is not yet the right time for Him to answer my prayer. God wants me to wait for Him.”
Days and weeks passed by, your situation is getting worse. You still choose to trust God because you hold on to His promises. You read the Bible and claim His promises to you – and that keeps you going.

As months passed by, the situation is not getting any better, instead they get worse. Your marriage seems to be over, you can no longer bear being with your spouse. Your debtors are chasing you. And then you start to ask yourself, “Is God listening to my prayers? Does He really know my needs? Why is He not listening? Why is He not answering my prayers? Did He forget about me?”

It is hard to believe something that we do not see. Honestly, having faith is the most difficult thing to do especially when you do not see things going your way. Trusting God is hard to do when problems are overwhelming you. You need the money right now and no one is even willing to lend you even a coin. Why is God not opening the floodgates of heaven to pour His blessings down? He surely can do that because He owns the Heaven and the Earth. Why is He not delivering me from financial difficulty, from an abusive relationship? He created Heaven and Earth just by speaking. Why is He not doing that right now given that I am in a very bad situation in my life? Does He want to see me suffer?

You see, your situation may be worst at the moment. Cliché as it may sound, but God is in control. He may not be changing the situation, but He is changing your heart. Your attitude. You are His work in progress. The situation may be the same, but your perspective is different now. You may see how big your problems are previously, but now you see how big your God is.

Remember when Peter to walks in the water with Jesus. (Matt 14:22-33) He started to walk on the water when he fixed his eyes on Jesus alone. But when he was distracted by the wind, he started to sink. Same with your current situation. You may feel that you are sinking because of the weight of the problems that you have to carry. Fix your eyes on Jesus alone. The Lord is saying to you to cast your burdens on Him and He will sustain you. (Psalm 55:2)

The bible also tells us that our Father in Heaven knows what we need before we ask Him. (Matthew 6:8) All we have to do is Trust God. Do not worry, because worrying won’t help. Instead, develop your faith in God. Continue to Pray. Read the Bible and apply it to your daily life. And claim that you have received your breakthrough by faith!
